Jockeys

Terry Lucas

Flat jockey - Weight: 8st 5lb

"Cool Hand Luke" as he is known has ridden over 1,500 winners around the world. Terry's early years as a jockey were spent in Australia where his wins included Group races. He has globe galloped since, having spent many years riding in Singapore, Malaysia and England. He won all the classics in Singapore, including 2 Gold Cups. In England he has also won big races, including the Magnet Cup (York) and Bunbury Cup (Newmarket). "Wombat" or "Lucazade" as he is known in the yard has a cool head and experience which are widely respected amongst his fellow professionals.

Paul Mulrennan

Apprentice - Weight:

Paul joined from Pat Haslam's yard just before the start of the 2003 flat season. He rode his first winner for us at Beverley in April 2003 when he guided Trouble Mountain to victory. He has established himself as one of the North of England's best apprentices.

Paul nominates Nowell House as his favourite horse at the yard, having guided him to victory twice in 2003 and picking up over £13,000 prizemoney. Paul has also won aboard Strong Hand, Blue Spinnaker, William's Well and Acomb.

Dale Gibson

Flat jockey - Weight: 7st 12lb

'Dale the Dictionary' is a superb light-weight jockey, and his knowledge of the form book is quite remarkable. Dale completed his first treble at Beverley in July 2002 riding Cat's Whiskers, Lago and Lough Bow to victory at cumulative odds of 2676-1.

Richard McGrath

Top national hunt jockey Richard McGrath rides most of our jumpers.  Richard rides with a long leg and is very effective! Richard is seen here riding Silver Socks at Wetherby.

Amateur jockey - Weight: 10 st

Thomas Greenall, son of Lord Daresbury, has some big shoes to fill but he's making a real name for himself as a successful amateur jockey. Tom had his first win for the yard aboard Gudlage at Pontefract on the flat in August, and has since won over jumps aboard the same horse at Newcastle in November. Tom rode his first double at Wetherby on Easter Monday 2003 when guiding Gastornis and that old rogue Noshinannikin to victory. Tom is proving himself to be one of the top amateurs on the circuit!
David Easterby

Amateur jockey - Weight: 14st 7lb (!!)

David is now in semi-retirement, so can enjoy the pork pies without having to worry about his weight! In the past David has ridden over 30 point-to-point winners. He's also been the champion Yorkshire jockey for the past 2 years. As well as respresenting the Mick Easterby yard, David is a successful point-to-point trainer in his own right, with Silver Groom amongst his best known winners.

Serena Brotherton

Lady jockey - Weight: 9st

Serena has established herself as a very well respected lady jockey. Serena's winners for the yard include Golden Chance and Beau Sauvage. Serena also boasts two wins in the Queen Mothers Cup at York, on Flower O'Cannie [1999] and Sporting Gesture [2003]. Her particular expertise is point-to-point. Serena combines her career as a jockey with her work as a solicitor. In July 2002 Serena was named as the Champagne Victor Lady of the Month for three winning rides at Ascot, Beverley and Pontefract.
